Off the West African Coast, facing Senegal, is located the Cape Verde archipelago, a former Portuguese colony. The archipelago represents a crossroads in the Ocean, a scattered country consisting in ten islands classified based on the exposure to winds: the leeward sheltered islands in a southerly direction, and the northern windward volcanic and fertile islands, including São Nicolau.
